We come to therapy for a reason. While we live in a world that likes to define what we are going through and who we are, these descriptions never seem to measure up. A label cannot capture what we feel and the sum of our experience. Some might say, I feel pain, I hurt, I suffer from anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, stress, emptiness, loneliness, trauma, dissatisfaction, loss, or grief. I am having difficulty in a relationship, at work, at school, in life. This would only begin to touch upon what you are experiencing. We may suffer on multiple fronts, or cycle from one to another. And, we each experience things in our own unique way. It is for this reason that the therapy I provide would be tailored to you and your needs. Because at the end of the day, I know that while each us may share similarities, you are you and no one out there is like you in every way.
It might be that you are seeking therapy as a result of coming to this decision on your own. Perhaps family members, friends or loved ones have encouraged your coming to therapy. Other health professionals may have recommended psychotherapy. In beginning this process, you are not alone. Often we hear about the power that resides within, that we can each accomplish whatever we set our minds to. This might sound like a promising idea, filled with great opportunity and potential. But, how do we get to feel better? To get out of the cycle we find ourselves trapped in? To be better? Before we get to the desired end, we likely need to work some things out in ourselves. It is this work that is best done with a qualified person to help.
I consider myself someone who offers therapy plus. As a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, I help adults, adolescents, families and loved ones who are struggling with crisis. I help tap into and assist in a better understanding of what is going on internally. I facilitate navigation and access to what is needed to manage distress in the most effective ways possible. I also help in non-crisis situations, and work toward gaining clarity. As your therapist, I am not only there to help figure out what is going on inside. I am also a resource to help you best cope and develop new tools for the outside world. My education and training have been, and continue to be, through ongoing professional development at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. I have pursued further studies in Canada, as well as the United States, in areas that include traumatic processes, Mindfulness and Lacan, and I enjoy lecturing and seminar presentations. I am a member of The Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy and Lacan Toronto.
I am dedicated to help and facilitate relief. The listening you should be experiencing in therapy is different in that it is attentive and attuned in a particular and focused way. This is what I aim to achieve. I offer a safe and confidential atmosphere above all, in addition to a compassionate and understanding environment. But, I also bring a practical approach that enhances coping. I am willing to confront and engage in the difficult conversations when necessary, while respecting a person's need to proceed at the pace and level at which they are comfortable. My style is approachable, down to earth and professional. I hold a law degree, have worked in that profession, owned and operated my own business and have dealt with personal and professional challenges. I value health and wellness, and promote positive lifestyle choices. I see mind, body and spirit as intrinsically related. Drawing upon my extensive experience, I help people move through life's difficulties through the art of psychotherapy.
